欢乐少年

Read the review article on Straits Times "Life" yesterday. The writer seemed a bit inclined towards classical/orchestral repertoire, hence the guitar-rendered versions were not very welcomed by him. And excuse him and me for saying mentioning it here, what the hell his mind or ears were doing when he wrote us to be "strumming" on stage?

It's quite apparent we are talking about a newbie who claims that guitar ensemble/orchestra is a new thing in town. In that case, Sandy Lam is probably the new thing in town too.

I didn't quite like the remark "joyous youth" in the headlines. Really gives a fuzzy and nonchalant feel to the quality of the music. Or maybe it's just my take.

*Bell just rang.... continue this later....*

I agree, didn't really like it. mf gf said the proper words to use in chinese is fu yan, too bad I don't know how to write it!

Anyhow, it just stank of a publicity exercise, and a band one at that. The joyous youth title was a dead giveaway, and the focus on the small group pieces and vanakam seemed like a pretty pathetic and masked attempt to offer a serious opinion. bet he would have said the same for some primary school speech day concert featuring a one-handed player on the recorder.

Furthermore he ended with the damn "ahead of his time" line which he kept repeating at the reception.

jeez. Well, at least we got reviewed, and he was nice about Mr A.

Actually...don't mind me saying but when I read the review, what I get from it was that the concert was not professional, and is somewhat entertaining if you don't treat it seriously. i.e. it's not good.

Well it wasn't that good what. And it was enjoyable, for the bulk of our audience. Someone actually commented the lighting wasn't interesting enough! Though I don't credit too many ST readers to have the ability to read between the lines. Would you have preferred he be more scathing?
