I have always been irritated by the way Dominic conducts his rehearsals.
A summary of his techniques:
1. repeated rehearse a short section over and over again, when it's really obvious that the section haven't really found the notes yet.
2. exclaim that the piece is wonderfully played when it's really not.
3. never plans his rehearsal repertoire and just play anything as he wishes.
4. horrendously slow at producing scores or transcriptions.
5. he does not look at the conductor scores at home and plan what he wants, he just comes and listens and add whatever he thinks is ok.
6. on the above note, he does not pen down his dynamics regularly.
7. he does not conduct us, just listens to us as we play, hence the members respond by not looking at him, and of course we talk when he says "stop stop stop" in the most gruelling way.
8. he harps on numerous miniature tiny musical aspects, when he obviously knows the section is not even note ready.
9. He does not have directions for the group, comes and behaves in a mindless music maniac mode. Even offering to play the solo part and claiming that he does not need to conduct.
For some reason or another, my frequency of ranting about how lousy he is has decreased over the months, seems like I have mildly resigned to his less-than-desired method of rehearsing, hence I've degenerated into my "hang around the piano at DT" mode.
Can we be saved? Seriously, I don't find it even atomically motivating to attend his rehearsals. His sessions are just sectionals for me to get my part right, hence I am one of the frequent contributing people who persistantly practice their own parts even when the conductor is trying to ask a section to try some of his ideas.
To answer his question of why Mr. Lim of NUSSO can get have silence when the music stops.
It's really simple. Of all the sessions I attend with NUSSO, Mr Lim is actually teaching music and delivering knowledge to the entire group. He communicates his ideas of the piece very efficiently and fluently, which I believe comes from the background work he's done.
He never harps on a bloody 5 bar passage for 30 min. In genus, we have been trained to tahan a 24 bar piece for 1.5 hrs. Most of us have accumulated so much suffering that we simply
1. go into sleep mode
2. forget to play repeats
3. talk even when the music is going on
4. roll ours eyes and pretend we are dead
Most of it is really how I react actually, without regrets.

Here's another to test out the images.
Well, since 中秋 is around the corner... I was digging through for a photo to post and came across this beautiful rendition of 月夜习武. Don't ask me how that happened. It just did.
I've always enjoyed listening to stories about friends from friends. It kinda helps me piece up a jigsaw puzzle of what's happening around myself.
I'm slow at writing. Think they should come with a verbal blog or something. I operate at least 3 times faster.
