Hours after I blog about Alex's email, comes Domy's one which sets quite different expectations about the auditions. 2 free choice pieces and sight-reading. I wondering what's happening to the upper management. Do they even communicate before sending out mass mails??? Perhaps Chua Beng Hwee or Thumboo could send out the next email on another set of audition criteria as well... hahaha

Nontheless, I still think if they are serious about encouraging the younger members to go for the trip, the should just concentrate on the repertoire on the trip, which addresses more pertinent issues for the trip's performance itself. Knowing Domy, he must think that the juniors have played in the annual concert and assumed that they are fantastically at home with their individual parts.

Spring Overture is a tricky one to bring to Japan, percussion instruments and all. It's already quite difficult to balance between full ensemble and the chinese percussion, what's more now it's a down-sized ensemble.

hahaha.. the auditions for japan trip really sounds like a music exam - 2 free choice, plus sight-reading and whathaveyou...

regarding WHY there's sight-reading, i think Dom mentioned that he THINKS the japanese folks might just wanna throw us a piece to try out there, maybe like a joint jamming thingie or something... how likely/unlikely, i dunno. But that's the reason he gave to me and Raj the last time.

Tuning-wise.. yah, should just invest in the small/new intellitouch tuners. Then sure no problem on stage... not sure HOW he's going to "test" tuning-abilities :PPP

Poor Alex. I believe that as usual, there was communication, but the MD has decided to send a mass email contradicting what he agreed to. Can't say I'm surprised, though besides either not having his brain switched on all the time, or wanting to make the Genus management look bad, I can't see why he would do this. Have to wonder about the point of the 2 free choice pieces though. I wonder if I should email the man to ask him about it. But then again he will probably have some handy excuses...

I think otherwise. I feel that Dom send out the email AFTER reading Alex's one.

Or it could be Dom has a sudden change of mind, which we know he is capable of.

Anyway doesn't concern me... Good luck for the Japan trip!

WTH. i think dominic needs to wake up his idea. I think this is not even about communication. He has openly said the criteria months ago to the ensemble and now he changes it without any regard to anyone. Its about honouring your promise. 不讲信用. How can genus work with someone who is 不讲信用. Genus name will be tarnished very soon if it hasnt been already done so.

I think it is absolutely dumb to ask us play 2 pieces. Is he trying to do this for himself, just because he is too indulge in his own world and has not take notice of the ensemble during the past 2 years in genus and now that he find this good excuse to say he wants to gauge the seniors standard? What the hell, ask him go and be yamaha teacher and gauge whatever he likes.

Dam...why nvr cc the mail to me leh?

My recommendation for free-choice pieces:
1. Romance de Amor (read S'pore Guitar network last minute fiasco);
2. Free choice :P

Man, this guy shld thank his lucky stars that we have dedicated members to keep the Japan trip project going. *kudos to them* Imposing such stupid criteria show the fact he is either lost-touch with GENUS reality or plain egoism.

Frankly, I'm worried about the trip. He always has his grandiose ideas, but doesn't spend enough time working on the things that really need doing. I'm not getting the vibe that people are excited and will want to come down for practices and finetune the pieces. Small wonder, considering what he has planned for us to play. How to wow people like that?
